Question by : I have been separated from my husband for the last 2 years. Am i responsible for his credit card debt? we live in Illinois and we have always had separate accounts. We are talking about getting back together but he had a creditor call my phone. When I asked him about this he stated he was in trouble with his credit cards. If you were responsible before you separated, you still are. A separation changes nothing.

If it's just his name on his cards, you're not responsible. Plus in a marriage, 1 person can do backruptcy, without affecting the other one. That's what we did. Just thought I'd mention it as an option.
