Gas Credit Cards For Bad Credit [creditcardsbusiness]

Gas Credit Cards For Bad Credit [creditcardsbusiness]

... Hey, Kroger, credit card fee is one bad idea. Published: Wednesday, July 18, 2012. By STEPHEN FRYE steve.frye@oakpress.com; Twitter: @stevefrye. Kroger has floated the idea that it may pass along the fee it pays for credit card usage onto the customer. Readers: Hey, Kroger, credit card fee is one bad idea

Gas credit cards offer rewards to their clients just like other credit cards do. The lending institutions realize that most consumers are looking to the possibility of getting more gas for their money and that is why the credit card lets them build up points that they can use toward their gasoline purchases. This is a great idea and most customers like it but to make the rewards even more tempting a lot of the oil companies want the customers to be able to use their reward points towards the purchases of other items while they are shopping at the station

The idea behind rewards is to give the customer something back for using their gas credit card on gasoline purchases. The service station makes more sales, the oil refineries can keep the prices a little higher and the lending institutions are making money from the credit they are extending so it stands to reason that the consumer should not be left out of the loop.

The consumer is the one who is actually making the profit for everyone with a gas credit card. The consumer is also getting the benefits of having buying power without cash up front. Still the consumer feels that they should be able to get some rewards for their line of credit. That is why the gas credit card reward system is now including other things like oil, transmission fluids, batteries, spark plugs, oil changes and smaller vehicle parts. In some cases since the service stations often provide food products the card can be used to buy these items as well. Find More Gas Credit Cards For Bad Credit Articles

Question by lonelioness: Why is paying the minimum balance on a credit card a bad idea? Best answer for Why is paying the minimum balance on a credit card a bad idea?:

Answer by SPIFIMAN1
It's not that it's a bad idea it's just that by only paying the minimum you never pay off your balance. Credit cards are great if they are used properly, you should never exceed 30% of your credit limit in any given month and pay in full before the due date if at all possible. This way you get to use other peoples money for 30 days with no interest, earn bonus points, cash back, airline miles, have a paper trail of your spending and don't have to carry around large amounts of cash. This also gives you a great credit score over time.

Answer by elaeblue
Because the longer you hold a loan the more interest you pay for the amount of money you "borrowed". So in fact you usually pay twice the amount when using a card and only paying the minimum - it could even be three times as much depending on the terms of your card.

Answer by gogo7
The ideal way to use a card is to not charge more than you can pay off at the end of the month. Paying the minimum means you are borrowing and in debt. When you pay the balance off each month, you also don't pay finance charges. If you look at your bills, it tells you what is added for a finance charge and that could be money you could have for yourself instead of giving it to your credit card company. It adds up.

Answer by tw158
You will end up paying a TON in interest. Instead of me rambling on, check it out for yourseld. This calculator will tell you how long it will take (and how much interest you will pay) if you only make minimum payments. http://www.e-wisdom.com/calculators/DebtPayoff2.html

Answer by D C
your not paying enough on your pricable.

Answer by heybulldog
It's a bad idea because you have to pay back more money than you borrow. Its not only a bad idea its stupid. If you pay as you go and live on less than you make you will have more money. If you play the credit card game you will lose. Credit cards = debt Debt free is the way to be!

I have a feeling you are infected by a spyware that is sending those emails to all your contacts without your knowledge. Download and install this antispyware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free Update it before doing a full scan. After the scan, change your email password as it may have been compromised. Try the 14-day trial version of MBAM Pro. for free. It blocks real-time threats from outside. After it expires it automatically downgrades to the free version which is just an on-demand scanner.

PETALING JAYA: The public will not be able to pay their income tax with credit cards for now as the Finance Ministry has rejected the proposal to allow such a move. No paying tax with credit card

The normal student who attends community colleges usually has their own apartment and a job. The job that they now have may not be the one that they are in training for instead it is possible a part time job to tide them over until after they graduate. The community college student will graduate in about a period of two years instead of the four or more year program offered by universities. Most of these students who are fresh out of high school may still live at home but a majority have their own apartment, maybe married or have a live in mate. There are normally two incomes coming into the household which makes it much easier to pay back a loan on a credit card.

Community College students usually have grants that help pays for their tuition and books but do not get any sort of extra spending money which makes it difficult at times. That is why a credit card for this type of student is very important and lending institutions recognize this factor that is why they are willing to give out good rates on interest for the student.

The student should make sure that the interest rate does not increase before they graduate and that no yearly fee is imposed on them before they graduate.

Many times lending institutions offer perks that help these students while they are attending college. One of the perks that most students like is being able to use points in the school book store to buy supplies. Even though text books might be covered by a grant normally things like paper, computer DVD's, pens etc. are not. These items can add up so a student credit card with this type of perk is very good. Question by Gianna C: credit cards for college students? Which credit cards companies would allow a college student with no money or income to get a credit card? Best answer for credit cards for college students?:

Answer by CandaceShelle
I am not sure what company would give you any sort of unsecured credit card without income unless you had a co-signer but I was able to get a Capital One card with no credit and a part time job that paid like 6 an hour. Good luck.

Answer by R T
No income and no assets = no card. How would you pay the card when due? The bank would wonder, too . . . .

Answer by Quizzle
HI @Gianna! New credit card rules went into effect in February, making it extremely difficult for people under 21 to get a credit card. Now, to qualify, you need either a cosigner OR sufficient ability to pay your debt (i.e. income). If you're able to get a cosigner (maybe your parents?), there are several credit card options designed just for college students. In fact, we recently did a review of the top credit cards for students. Here's what we found: +Citi Forward Card for College Students: Rewards responsible use of credit with a lower interest rate. Also offers a rewards program. +Citi Dividend Platinum Select Visa Card: Good for students who spend a lot. You'll get cash back on certain purchases. +Discover Student More Card: Also good for heavy spenders. Offers cash back on certain purchases and comes with design options. +Orchard Bank Classic MasterCards: Customized card based on your credit history. Interest rate is high and annual fee is based on your credit score, but this is an option for those who can't qualify for a card anywhere else. +Capital One Student Rewards Card: Great cash back rewards and no annual fee, but a higher interest rate. For more details about these cards, check out the link below. Keep in mind that you'll likely have to start with a card with a higher interest rate and fees. But in time, as you demonstrate responsible use of credit, new, better options will open up to you. Good luck!

Question by Shola: Credit Card vs Private Student Loan? Recently, I found out that I needed to come up with about $ 1,500 each quarter (every 3 months) to attend grad school. Since my school does not participate in Federal student loans, I had to search for available private loans. The thing is I realized these private loans have an already set up repayment plan that would make me pay about $ 21,000 for borrowing only $ 9,000 ($ 12,000 in interest). The best one I saw was about $ 18,000 (2x the amount borrowed) â€" way too much in interest. I was thinking about paying the $ 1,500 using either my 0% or 8.9% APR credit card, and start paying more than the minimum payment due (say about $ 160) per month. I calculated that I will pay less in interest that way, probably only $ 3,000. What do you think? Is it always better to go with a student loan? Best answer for Credit Card vs Private Student Loan?:

Answer by traceya87
not every college takes credit card payments. also with the loan if you take out all of the money needed you can use it to get books, and you sometimes do not have to pay until a year sometimes 2 years. with a credit card you may not be able to pay it off in time for the next semester, also you will just be accumulating debt seeing youmay have other bills such as other credit cards, insurance and carpayment/cell payments. Also the apr is bound to go up so i highly doubt that that will be your apr the whole time....

Answer by Slider728
I think you have the right idea. One of the best things I ever started doing was transferring balances between credit cards. When I started doing that, the cards that I had just "paid off" lowered my interest rates and gave me excellent balance transfer offers to get my business back. Within the last 6 months, I consolodated my debt with a credit card at 1.9% interest until the balance was paid off + a one time $ 75 fee for the transfer (I was actually going to pay off my car with the same balance transfer as they offered, but I wasn't prepared for an APR that low). The thing now is that man y credit cards charge you a fee to transfer the balance. You have to calculate the cost out to figure out if it is worth taking the 6 month 0% balance with a $ 100 transfer fee or if you are better off keeping it on your current card at 8.9%. Open up a credit card or two if you need a few more to transfer between. If you pick up a copy of Kiplinger's personal finance, every month they have a list of companies with the best promotional credit card rates as well as a list of cards with the best permanent rates. The only exception to the credit card plan is if the private loans have deferrments if you go back to school. If so, what you can do is put everything on the private loans. When you graduate, start paying the loans. After about 6 months, go back to school. If you are working someplace with tuition reimbursement, take it. If you have to take up a 2-year degree at a technical college, do it. During the deferrment, keep up your payments. Your payments will be interest free so to speak. Everything you pay will go toward the principle. Good Luck. I wish you the best in your studies.

Answer by Geo
if you have 0% on the credit cards and can pay them off before the regular apr kicks in then i say go for it. Otherwise, a private student loan will allow you to defer payments until after graduation if you want or you can just pay them off as you wish.....with no early payoff penalty. Best thing to do for private student loans is compare rates at http://www.finaid.org/loans/privatestudentloans.phtml I would suggest a Think Student Loan....great company to work with. Check them out at http://www.thinkfinancial.com Good Luck.

Answer by rashley626
Student loan is better, yes debt is usually bad, but not always (you cant get good credit without getting & paying debt). The 2 best debts is morgage & student loans. There are different types, get the best after graduate rate you can, blah blah blah. Loans are better in this situation.

Instant Student Credit Cards

Instant student credit cards can be a great tool for anyone heading off to college.  Many parents like the idea of their student having a credit card in order to pay for any emergencies that may pop up as well as for everyday incidentals.

In addition to these reasons, there are a few more advantages to obtaining instant student credit cards.  Some of the most common benefits are as follows:

Instant student credit cards give students another source of funding in addition to simply relying on student loans.  Because some students are only able to get enough money to pay basic tuition, room, and board, a credit card can offer a bit of extra cash flow to help cover other expenses. Instant student credit cards teach students how to budget, and manage their money.  Students learn the importance of not spending outside of their means, as well as how to repay balances on time. Since instant student credit cards are designed for students who have little to no credit history, they are a great tool for building a strong credit history and score for the future.

Because not all credit cards are created equal, and many are not intended to meet the needs of students, instant student credit cards provide many distinct advantages.  These cards are made just for students, and offer fast lines of credit in order to place the card easily within the reach of younger individuals.

These cards were created as a way not only to provide funding for students, but also to attract a younger clientele to the banks.  Since the need for young individuals to build their credit sooner has never been more important, the banks realized they could make things much easier by offering simple, basic, applications to a college based audience.

If you are considering applying for any of the various instant student credit cards, you should not just rush out and take the first offer you find.  Instead, you should remember that credit card companies know you are new to the world of credit and are eager to obtain a card.

This combination puts younger people at a higher risk for overspending and defaulting.  The result is higher risk potential to the card issuers, leading to higher interest rates.  Take a bit of time to shop around and compare offers.  Find out if there are any introductory offers, cards that offer lower interest rates over a longer period of time, as well as all of the applicable fees.

Instant student credit cards can really be a beneficial option for college aged people.  Contrary to the belief that putting a card in a young person's hands will only increase the chances of accumulating debt, they can actually work the opposite way.  When students learn the benefits and dangers associated with a card, they learn early on how to handle expenses and their credit in a way that promotes overall financial responsibility.  These lessons are sure to last a lifetime.

- Most zero APR credit cards offer zero APR for a limited time, normally no more than a year

Carefully read the fine print to find out exactly how much interest youll be paying later. Some people try to transfer their entire credit card balance to a new zero APR card every year in order to extend their limited time offer indefinitely, but credit card companies are getting wise to this maneuver. Nevertheless, getting a zero APR credit card can be a smart move as long if you read the contract and follow the rules.

- There is usually a an annual fee.

$ 20 is no problem, but beware triple-digit fees just to get zero APR for 12 months.

- Zero APR card issuers make money from suckers.

So dont be one. Late fees are high, so pay on time. How much of an interest rate is zero APR plus a late fee of $ 25? You can do the math yourself. The card issuer might also jack up the rate for late payers (they call it a default interest rate). And a default interest rate may apply not only to existing balances but future charges as well.

Zero APR credit cards can be great value if there is a reasonable interest rate after the limited offer period ends and as if you pay all your card bills as they come due. If you do that, then your low interest rate will in effect be paid for by the suckers who snatch up these cards and then dont pay on time.

Improve Your Credit - FICO Score [creditcardsbusiness]

Improve Your Credit - FICO Score [creditcardsbusiness]

As you can tell from this analysis, poor credit will affect your mortgage rate. There's simply no way to avoid this. If your FICO score is say 650, you will not qualify for the best rate, period. The only way to get a lower rate is to improve your ... Reader Question: Can You Refinance a Mortgage with Bad Credit

If you are looking to improve your credit so that you can get a good interest rate on an auto, house or personal loan, than you must focus on your FICO Score which is the most commonly used credit score. The name comes from the Fair Isaac Corporation which developed the scoring model. The score is used to predict the likelihood that a person will pay his or her debts. The scores use only information from credit reports.

The FICO Score, which represents an individual's credit rating, typically range from 300 to 850. A higher score is usually considered to start around 640 which translate into lower interest rates on autos and homes. It is also used to determine lower deposits on utilities such as gas, electric and telephone.

You have three FICO scores representing each of the three credit bureaus: Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax.

As credit-related information changes, your credit scores tend to change as well. Your 3 scores affect both how much and what loan terms (interest rate, etc.) lenders will offer you at any given time. Taking steps to improve your scores can help you qualify for better rates from lenders.

The Experian, TransUnion and Equifax Scores are all based on the following information that the three credit bureaus keeps on file about you. Key factors used to calculate a borrower's credit score are:
1) Payment History (approximately 35% of FICO Score)-pay on time or if you have missed payments, get current and stay current,
1) Mix of credit types (approximately 10% of Score)- having a mix of credit such as revolving, installment, and personal lines of credit
2) New credit (approximately 10% of  Score)-don't open up too much new credit at once,
3) Length of credit history (approximately 15% of  Score)-the longer your credit history, the better the score,
4) Balance owed (approximately 35% of  Score)-keep balances as low as possible

On the flipside, it is illegal to use certain information to determine a credit score under the federal Equal Credit Opportunity Act or the Fair Credit Reporting Act. By law, credit scores may not be considered using gender, race, or marital status. Related Improve Your Credit - FICO Score Articles

Answer by Agrippa the Roman
That's why your score is so low.

Answer by Richard P
It sounds like you should be in better shape than you are. One, make sure when you use your credit card your not going any where near the limit. Two, look at your credit report in detail and make sure there is anything outstanding that may be an error. It sounds like your are doing everything else ok. Also, do not open too many accounts at one time. The more credit you take out the lower your score goes. Hope that helps. When I was 20 I did some dumb things with my credit and was at 595. In one year I got it to 790 and just bought a house. Good luck

Answer by Jay S
Doesn't make any sense to me, you should be higher. Be sure you read the thing carefully and understand it fully. Those things can be a little cryptic. Sounds like there's an error to me.

Answer by Jose V

Answer by Pengy
Credit to debt ratio, you make enough to handle your debt but not enough for anything else, get your cards down around 30% of their value and see where that gets you

Answer by robinhood1331
Usually people who are on the market for credit suggest you should keep your overall utilization below 30%. These same people suggest you shouldn't use more than 10% of your total available credit when you're in the market for a mortgage. If you don't know what i mean by utilization, I'll give you an example. Lets say you have 1k of credit across all your cards. You charge $ 500. You utilization is now 50%. It is your debt to credit ratio You are entitled to free 3 credit reports a year. http://www.myfico.com/Default.aspx They have offer a free Transunion and Ex report. They also have free trials to interesting programs. Sign up and check out whats could be wrong. The programs help with disputing credit errors, they help you monitor your fico score and tell you why your score is good or bad. If you do go this route, check for any mistakes. For all we know there are transaction reported on there you never actually preformed. Good luck.

Answer by Lauren F
Sometimes the types of credit you use can cause a decline in the score. For example, rent to own places, or certain store cards, are considered places where credit-risky customers get cards, and will drop your score. Also, a lot of recent cards will drop your score. Finally, if your car payment is more than 15% of your income, that will hurt you. If you recently paid off student loans, that will help boost your score. I would pull your actual credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com and see what is on there - maybe there is an error in one of your loans reporting something as late.

Answer by Watch IT!
Your score is low because you did not pay a bill. Change that and change the score (over time)

Answer by Dan B
I'm thinking that the major credit card plus the "few store credit cards" that you carry represent potential debt that may affect your ability to pay on another major credit card and/or mortgage plus normal living expenses based upon your income. Even though you have zero balances on those cards, if you have 5 cards @ $ 2000 limits each, that represents $ 10,000 of potential debt that can appear on the books after you get a mortgage. I don't have any credit cards. I live with the theory that if I can't pay cash on the spot for day to day living expenses, I can't afford it. Banks and CC companies are betting on their customers' human nature of overspending and will eventually carry a balance and pay interest. If you insist on having one or two, get rid of the store credit cards. Closing those cards may ding your credit but for a short time. The long held CC will help you in the long run. Another thing is to build up a good savings account balance. If you start with zero savings and a couple of credit cards, you are on the negative side of the balance sheet. A savings account represents a positive asset for credit card purposes.

Answer by bdancer222
With a 10 year history of on time credit card history, plus installment loans, your score should be a lot better. Credit experts recommend 3 or 4 credit cards and 2 installment loans to get the best credit mix for the best FICO score. I suggest you pull your credit reports (AnnualCreditReport.com) and carefully review for errors.

Answer by boilerette72
How did you get a credit card in your name when you were 15? Probably doesn't count, so likley at most you only have 7 years of credit history.

www.Savedme.com 800-728-3363 800-SAVEDME. Bankruptcy Attorney Jamie Ryke from the Law Offices of www.FreeBankruptcyEvaluation.com Southfield, Michigan and Chicago Illinois talks about what happens to your credit score when you file for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcies.

http://summershot.net/ What happens to your credit score when filing bankruptcy

Certain debts are dischargeable and others are not.  The following divorce related debts are not dischargeable in a bankruptcy filing:

Taxes (federal, state, real estate, etc) Child support Alimony (aka Spousal Support or Maintenance)

Debts arising from a marital settlement agreement or divorce decree are dischargeable unless the creditor (ex-spouse) objects to the bankruptcy proceeding.  This is why you want to have it spelled out in writing as to what happens in the event of a bankruptcy filing where all of the property settlement transactions have not yet taken place.

the following example illustrates another issue which could arise if you have split joint debt and your ex-spouse proceeds with filing bankruptcy.

Joint Debt Example â€" Let's assume that you have 2 joint credit cards with a balance of $ 10,000 on each for a total of $ 20,000.  Through your settlement agreement, you decide to split the joint debt evenly and each of you agree to pay off the 1 one of the credit cards (which we wouldn't recommend).

One year after the divorce, your ex-spouse decides to file bankruptcy and hasn't paid any of the debt of associated with the credit card.  Your ex-spouse will be relieved of half of the joint debt ($ 5,000) and you will be responsible for the other half even though you had split the joint debt in your settlement agreement. You are now on the hook for $ 15,000 of the credit card debt instead of the original $ 10,000.

Strategy: If you have concerns that your ex-spouse may be filing for bankruptcy, you will want to structure your property settlement in a lump-sum agreement if possible.  Also, if payments are to be made over a period of time, you may want to have those payments classified as child support or alimony.  This can help in protecting you from losing the income in the bankruptcy.

Question by skill.kraft: What various charges are made to shops for us (The shopper) using credit cards/debit cards at their premises? Some places seem to accept cards for low amounts some say only over a certain price can cards be used because they cost them (The retailer) money if used. Is there a single cost for all retailers? Are debit cards cheaper and credit cards charged at the same price? Is it just an excuse to make more money? Best answer for What various charges are made to shops for us (The shopper) using credit cards/debit cards at their premises?:

Answer by gooseegg
I work for a point of sale company (touchscreen computers) so I heard a great deal about credit card processing. These companies charge the restuarant or store a fee each time someone uses a credit card. It is the way for the credit card processing companies to make money. So a store normally won't take credit cards for small amounts because they would end up losing money.

Answer by peglegsteeev
There is a fee for any type of Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. Visa and Mastercard tend to be the least expensive, while Discover and AmEx are high. I've heard sometimes the fee is as low as 3-4%, but I know people who run business and are charged over 10%, so I'm not sure if there is a discounted rate for large chains, or if someone was just lying. As far as I know, debit and credit both charge the same, as it still has that Visa/Mastercard logo, so it's through their network.

[credit cards debit cards charge cards]

A www.BestCreditQuote.com video explaining how credit cards, debit cards and charge cards differ.

summershot.net Credit Cards vs. Debit Cards vs. Charge Cards

Credit Card

Most people will be familiar with the concept of a credit card. You can use it to make purchases and at the end of each month you must pay the bank a minimum amount. It's usually about 2.5% of the total balance, so if you've spent $ 1,000, you need to pay $ 25. You can, of course, choose to pay more and many people pay off their balance in full each month in order to avoid paying interest.

If your card doesn't have an interest free period, you'll begin accumulating interest as soon as you make a purchase or as soon as the bank sends your monthly invoice (depending on your bank). Usually, the bank calculates how much interest you owe each night, so it can compound quickly.

You can also use your credit card to get a cash advance by using your card in an ATM. Cash advances are not recommended as you begin accumulating interest on the amount immediately (even if your card has an interest free period).

Also, the interest rate for cash advances is usually higher than the advertised interest rate for purchases.

Debit Card

There is some confusion around the term 'debit card'. It can mean your normal EFTPOS card linked to a savings account (to avoid confusion we'll refer to these as EFTPOS cards).

It can also be a type of credit card (like the Visa Debit Card). These cards are similar to credit cards - you still press the 'credit' button on the EFTPOS terminal, they have a Visa or MasterCard logo on them and they're accepted as widely as a credit card. The only difference is the money is yours. When you make a purchase, they money is deducted from your savings account, just like it would be if you used your normal EFTPOS card.

So why have one? A debit card gives you the acceptance of a credit card (so you can shop online or take the card overseas) without the risk of owing the bank money.

The eligibility criteria are very lenient (because the bank doesn't have to lend you anything!) which makes it ideal for students.

Unlike a credit card, you don't pay any interest.

Some debit cards have an 'overdraft' feature. This is a small credit limit (usually only $ 500 or $ 1,000) which allows you to continue using your card if your savings account runs out of money. However, there is usually a fee and you will pay interest on any amount you owe.

Charge Card

Charge cards are uncommon in Australia and the term is sometimes used synonymously with 'credit card', however they are different. A charge card, unlike a credit card, requires you to pay the balance in full each month. You cannot make small incremental payments toward your balance (if you fail to pay the balance in full, you can receive a severe fee).

So why have one? Like a credit and debit card, a charge card gives you greater acceptance than a normal EFTPOS savings card. They also sometimes have a loyalty or rewards program.

Governments and large businesses favour charge cards as a way of tracking and managing the expenses of their employees, without accumulating interest or requiring their staff to use cash funds or be reimbursed.

American Express, Diners Club and Discover all offer a range of charge cards.

Some charge cards also have an 'extended payment' option, which allows you to make big purchases (usually over $ 250) on your charge card and pay them off slowly over time.

A topic I have never covered is the life insurance option you can receive from credit cards. Most usually cover the balance on the credit card and some offer life insurance amounts. However, most of the higher amounts of life insurance is actually accident death insurance. Meaning you have to die in some type of accident: i.e. fall off roof and die or more common die in a car accident. Generally, the cost is very little due to the odds someone actually dies due to an accident.

If you are looking at protecting your family a good term policy is better than an accidentally death policy. I'll give you an example. I had an aunt who was in her early 40s and died due to a brain aneurysm. She had a life insurance policy for $ 500,000, but when we called to look at filing a claim we discovered the policy was an accidental death policy. Since a brain aneurysm is not an accident the insurance company did not pay the claim.

Just so you know the monthly premium was on $ 8 a month, but offered little death protection.

If you are called by one of credit card companies about a life insurance policy you better think twice about the insurance. If you feel the cost is not that much then go ahead and buy a policy. The only advice is to make sure you have other :true life insurance" that will protect your family and spouse. What I mean by "true" life insurance is that if you die it pays regardless of cause of death.

Life insurance is an important part of any financial plan especially if you have a lot of credit card bills. Remember if the accounts are joint accounts then your spouse is still responsible for that bill. If you are single make sure you have designated someone as a beneficiary on all your life insurance, retirement plans, and bank accounts. If not the money will be payable to your estate and then the credit card companies can file a claim to receive the balance left on the account. Yes this is technical, but should be done regardless.

www.videocreditscore.com - Secured Credit Card Impact Credit Score - This episode focuses on pros and cons of getting a secured credit card.

No one will disagree with the fact that credit cards do have their own advantages. It is also equally true that if used irresponsibly, they also have the capacity to become a great menace to eat away your peace of mind. Some people get overwhelmed with the ease and convenience of using them for buying whatever they want and go on a shopping spree. Such an attitude will pull them into a debt trap and their credit score will ultimately get a severe beating. If you want to avoid such a situation, you can follow a few tips.

- The first step you should take is to know your credit status. You have a few credit bureaus from which you should try to get this. Only if you know which are the accounts on which you should focus on, you can chalk out your strategy.

- You should understand that only the accounts to which you are not making regular payments will spoil your credit status.

You must make efforts to get current on those accounts and this will greatly improve your rating.

- You should not try to get fresh cards till you repair the situation. Your fresh applications will most probably will get rejected and apart from that, even if you attempt to apply for them after repairing your credit rating, your applications will be viewed with apprehension.

- You should not close accounts where the balances are still open. They may adversely affect your credit status.

- Communication is the key in getting the required help and assistance from credit card companies. You should have a frank talk with them and they should know that you are willing to pay back your debts and your intention is not to cheat. These companies will definitely understand genuine difficulties and any one may face such difficulties.

- Last but not the least, you should take action and start paying off your debts.

Sheer rhetoric will never satisfy these companies.

Apart from the above tips, you must not also close your card on which there is still credit available. If you close it, your total available credit will be reduced and this is not good for improving your credit card rating. Likewise, you should not close your oldest credit card also. If you do so, your card history will become short. Apart from your payments, companies look at the length of the card history also.

You should also not commit the mistake of closing the credit card that offers the best terms such as low interest rates, waiver on

Question by Joshua's Dhrama: Credit Cards & Credit Scores, how does it work? I'm getting a bit agitated and tiresome of the conflicting answers I'm getting. I have no credit history. I'm getting ready to recieve a secured Capital One MasterCard with a 22% interest. My reason for getting a credit card is to build up my credit score. So how does one build credit? I've been told both to leave a balance on there and to pay it all off. So which is it? Best answer for Credit Cards & Credit Scores, how does it work?:

Answer by Angry Bird
How to develop amazing credit with that secured card. Use it for small things you need like gas and pay it in full when you get the bill. Not the minimum, not more than the minimum, but the full amount you used. This way you never pay interest and develop amazing credit. It is 100% myth that carrying a balance and paying interest is good for credit. Nothing could be further from the truth. Again, you will never pay interest if you replace the money each month. You'll find that there are two classes of people that belive in this myth. The subprimers and the older generations. I think it may have been a myth started by banks many years ago. Carrying balances (not paying in full) brings no benefit of any kind.

Answer by Luis
The range of your credit score could be between 350 to 750 points. Remember, the higher your score is the better your chances of an approval to a loan that you want. A good credit score is a minimum of 700 points. Anything below this mark you will need to improve upon. On this page: http://creditscorecheck.wordpress.com , I found lot of information that can help you learn more about credit score.

Answer by Calvin C
with revolving credit you gain nothing by leaving a balance ever. also secured cards or any credit card is not the way to start credit it is expensive and very easy to screw up. I am one of the few people with over 800 as my score Best cheapest way to establish credit is a secured bank loan pay off over 7 months and repeat until you can get an unsecured one. Getting a CC to start your file is not only stupid because even if you get one the limit will be so low you will cause more harm then good using it it is stupid because until you have practice paying debts CC offer to much freedom

APR is basically the interest rate, to make it a basic answer. Annual fees are fees charged on a yearly basis just to have the card in your possession (whether you use it or not). Never get a credit card that has an annual fee - there are tons of completely free credit cards.

You're right with the annual fee. You're going to pay that annually regardless of how much you use the card. The APR is your annual percentage rate. This is the interest rate on your card. If you don't pay your balances off in full, you'll get hit with an interest rate. For example, if your rate is 19.99%, and you have an unpaid balance of $ 100, you'll get hit with that 19.99% over the year. This is why it's important to pay off your bills in full each and every month.

Secured credit cards are great way to manage your finances and to start improving your credit history. Plus, they are virtually a necessity these days if you ever want to travel, as most airlines, car rental companies and hotels REQUIRE a credit card to use their services. The problem is that finding companies that offer secure credit cards in this day and age can be a daunting task. The purpose of this article is to give you the inside "scoop" on finding these types of credit cards so you can be on your way to having the convenience and credit building benefits that come with them.

So just what is a secured credit card? When someone does not qualify for a "regular" credit card, either because of a poor credit history or because they have yet to establish credit, their best option is a secured one. "Secured" simply means that anything you charge on the credit card is backed by your own money, usually in your own bank account.

So, your credit line on these cards is based on how much you have in your account to back your charges on the card.

Sometimes local credit unions and banks offer these types of unsecured cards, but they are seeming to fade away, even despite the growing need in this tough economy where many people's credit is falling apart.

One thing to be aware of is unscrupulous companies that charge ridiculous fees and "no name" cards that can only be used in their catalogs to buy their merchandise. What you need is a secured Visa or MasterCard. These are the types that are accepted everywhere. These will give you the ease of use and the convenience and credit building qualities you are looking for.

Question by thedramaqueen03: Just turned 18, what are good cards to establish credit? I want to establish credit but I continue to be turned down for credit cards (I have zero credit since I just turned 18). I've even gotten declined for departments stores, like the bonton and walmart. I'm still in high school, so I can't get the "college" student cards. Any ideas of good ones to try to get? I forgot to mention, my parents refuse to co-sign for anything for me, so I'm on my own with this one. I already have a job and a car, by the way. I will definitely pay my bills on time :-). I just need access to a credit card to start. I've already tried chase, american express, orchard, and department stores (such as sears, best buy, bonton, etc.). I'm just trying to find some other credit card companies that give cards to people with no credit. Thanks for any help! Best answer for Just turned 18, what are good cards to establish credit?:

Answer by Sane
The absolute worse thing you can do to establish credit is to get a credit card. When the time comes, you'll need to get a job, then you'll need to buy a car to get to that job. Thats a legitimate reason, and your parents or a family member should co-sign for you. Then you have a working loan and will be establishing credit the proper way.

Answer by Smoovy Loco
The easiest way to get a credit card is to apply for a secured credit card. You may want to try where you do your banking to see if they're offered. I posted some links to some at the bottom, but I'd like to explain how secured cards work. You put a deposit upfront (which usually goes into a savings account) to get the same amount of the deposit in a line of credit. Now while this may not seem like a good thing, think of it as a way ta start a savings for yourself while you're building credit. Now the deposit can't really be used to pay anything that you charge on the credit card unless you're delinquent to the point that the credit card company's forced to use it. But if you're building your credit, you want your deposit back, eventually so you never want to let that happen. Another advantage is that you can raise the credit limit over time by adding to the deposit. An easy tip to manage the card is simply not charging more than what you can pay off in full or as close to it on time every month. The perfect thing to use it would be to buy gas. By doing that, usually after a year, you get your deposit back and either the card will convert to a regular credit card or you'll become eligible for an even better card. Also to establish your credit there is a credit bureau that allows people to report payments to items that don't show on their regular reports like rent, cellphone, utilities, insurance, etc. It's called PRBC. There's a lot that I didn't cover on the website that I'll let you see for yourself but it will definitely help you build your credit!

Don't get a credit card to build credit!! I tried that, and now I've changed my limit from $ 500 to $ 3000 in less than 6 months. It's such a burden now to pay off every month. Start saving! When the time comes to purchase something you don't have all the money for, anybody will give you credit when they see thousands of dollars in your bank account.
